The Challenge: Worn Coating, Weather Exposure, and Detailed Door Profiles

Exterior entrance doors are constantly exposed to weather, sunlight, moisture, and daily use. Over time, painted or stained finishes can deteriorate, especially around edges, panels, trim details, and high-contact areas.

  • Aged Exterior Finish: The entrance door had a dark existing coating that needed to be removed before refinishing.
  • Weathering & Surface Degradation: Exposure to outdoor conditions contributed to finish wear, discoloration, and uneven surface appearance.
  • Detailed Panel Construction: Raised panels, moulded trim, glazing bars, and decorative features required careful restoration without losing definition.
  • Mixed Surface Conditions: Some areas had already been partially stripped while others still retained heavy dark coating, creating an uneven surface condition.
  • Precision Around Glass & Edges: Areas near glass inserts, trim transitions, jambs, and narrow recessed sections required controlled work to avoid damaging surrounding features.

The Laser Restoration Process

Power Laser used controlled laser cleaning technology to restore the entrance door with precision and care:

  • Selective Coating Removal: The laser removed the aged dark finish layer-by-layer, exposing the natural wood beneath.
  • Detail Preservation: Raised panels, trim lines, recessed edges, and other architectural details were cleaned without aggressive abrasion.
  • Controlled Work in Tight Areas: The process allowed targeted restoration around narrow profiles, corners, and difficult-to-reach sections.
  • Non-Contact Surface Treatment: No abrasive blasting media or harsh mechanical stripping was used, helping preserve the integrity of the wood surface.
  • Refinishing Preparation: The entrance door was brought to a cleaner, more uniform state, ready for final sanding, staining, sealing, or protective coating.

The Results: Restored Wood Surface and Ready for Refinish

  • Old Finish Removed: Dark coating was stripped from the door surface, revealing the natural wood grain and color beneath.
  • Architectural Details Preserved: Panel profiles, trim details, edges, and moulding features remained intact.
  • Improved Surface Uniformity: Previously uneven areas were restored toward a more consistent base for refinishing.
  • Prepared for New Finish: The door is ready for final surface preparation and application of stain, paint, clear coat, or protective exterior finish.
  • Enhanced Curb Appeal Potential: The restoration process helps return visual quality and extend the service life of the entrance door.
